Banks, P.E. 1956 White Crowned Sparrow a 15 Mar. Bancraft along 4th. Field / center section - 2 bricks flew chipping from middle to W end of this section. Then I heard tulting & warbling. One bird flew to wall, into poplar on other side. These things are very good at staying hidden. One now warbling & three bushes. Fed at landing bait. Birds, if present this A.M. are not active yet. 0630 Banow lane, S end adn Bldg (opp.) - One bird feeding in grass + poppies here. Eckleman Rd E of Banow lane - Halfway. Several feeding in gutter. One on hedge. Both W. tulted. Some singing weak songs Banow lane, came as close ~ 15 minutes later. Bird still feeding alone. Fed on willow catkins. Flew into hedge either flew was quiet for while. Tulted 3 times, flew out other side of hedge. SW corner Calif Hall - Heard a bird singing here - sang just a few times, not loud. I would not locate it. 5-10 min. later saw pair feeding high in Live Oak at S end of area between Espz + Calif. Hall. 18:15 Bancraft along 4th Field, Cnter Sec. - One bro. bird along about in center of this section. Another 2 birds then a third, flew toward hed from E, where one had been chipping. Some tulting. Fed on lost grain. Upper Section - One bird singing from wall. Another feeding in grass. Moved to bushes and tulted when people passed. Bird on wall still say. I went to wall, tulted & fluttered wings.
