Banks, B.C. 1956 White Crowned Sparrow 6. 8 March. Barnsfield, along 4th. Field, center part. Now have 1 bird feeding in grass about 25 yards from [illegible] other feeding in grass. One of the 4 picked up several dead grasses held them awhile but continued feeding and dropped them. Heard weak songs from single bird now behind me. Group split up shortly, 2 birds going E. along walk, 2 coming west a ways. As I passed two eastern birds, one hidden in bush began to trill. One in edge of bush flew to wall. One hidden trilled several times, came in again in bush, dropped to grass, crossed sidewalk, fed in gutter. Joined by bird from wall. Walked east into upper part of this strip. Edge of Parking Lot, SE doors LSB. - Pair of White Crows, one singing. Another pair appeared and there is some fighting. Two birds singing in trees about 10 ft. apart. After couple minutes, invading birds moved on, to west a ways. Song Sparrow had been singing, stopped when White Crowns started screaming. Now none of the birds present at A White Crowns singing further W. Between LSB & Colby Hall - Bird chirping in trees S. edge of area, along walk (Campanile Rd.) Flew toward Durant Hall. Haven't seen the pair I thought had territory here for several days.
