Banks P.C. 1956 White Crowned Sparrow 4. 27 Feb Between LSB + Calif Hall Heard 2 loud songs from around N entrance LSB. Very weak answer from bird in top of Shuja N of flagpole. A couple loud songs from near Calif Hall. Bird in Shuja continued singing very weakly. Few minutes later a bird singing fairly strongly in Colon by ledge, N of walk. Stopped singing, 2 birds feeding on lawn near tree. Both flew to Shuja near flagpole, then fed on walk and under tree. I walked to steps, as I got there Wh C gave "peent", started to sing. Could not see other bird. In Junipers. While one bird was singing richly in Juniperum another began to sing weakly in Shuja N of flagpole. Songs alternated a while, both stopped. I noted no particular difference in the songs. Shuja bird began feeding in grass.. Flew to Shuja near flagpole, fed there. 27 Feb. N of Broken Vins Lab, steps between buildings - One White Crown feeding on Junipers. Spotted Towhee + Hermit Thrush also present. White Crown gave loud note. Maybe another (chiller crow) not sure, came, but flew when pedestrian came down steps. 2 birds came in momentarily flew to large tree to nest. Not same of species. Between LSB + Calif Hall - Bird singing in top of line oak S side of lawn near walk. Flew E, sang at N side Calif Hall. 29 Feb. Bancroft, along 6th Field W of Ellsworth a pair of White Crowns here. When disturbed they flew to top of wall, and into field.
