White Crowned Sparrow. 17 Feb. Bancroft, along ath. Field, acrossf. Epis. Church 2 White Crows. One sang a couple week songs, The other was feeding a little distance away, flew to wall along ath. Field, First one gave 'peent' note, seemingly alarmed. 4 other white crowns feeding in grass a short distance E., but W. of dive into ath. Fld. Between LSB and Cahif. Hall. a Bird singing in shrub a bout 12 yds. S. of flagpole. Bird hidden in bush gave 'peent' note when I approached, remained hidden One on top (?) continued singing, ?, inside, gave waddled till. ?, disturbed gave waddled fanned tail several times, charged portion and fluttered wings. Movement of branches indicated that ? had moved very close below him. ? returned to original position, waddled twice more. ? continued to sing, lobbed, wagged tail a few times. ? gave repeated 'peent' as pedestrian traffic increased. This seems to be at or near the location Blanchard studied. 24 Feb. Bancroft, along ath. Field . One White crown feeding in grass. Flew to cement wall, then to Cottonwood Tree. After a few minutes flew to sidewalk, where other joined it. In a few minutes both were feeding in grass. Near W. and U strip, by central ticket office. About 30 yds. farther E., another pair stayed hidden in shrubbery.
