Parks, D.C. 1956. White Crowned Sparrow. 2. 10 Feb. Beneset st., along Ath. Field, edge of bush in plain sight. Soon began to sing. Evidently &. & more concealed farther in bush. After & sang 3 or 4 times, both flew to lower cement wall farther W. Sat about 3 ft. apart & continued to sing. Door to Men's Gym at least 6 White crowned feeding in grass. Paid little attention to passerby. Soon flew into Juniper, apparently feeding on berries. 11 Feb. Beneset st., along Ath. Field, cross from Epis. church. 2 pairs of White Crowns, very close. 13 Feb. White crown flushed as I walked by, gave sharp "peant" note. In a few minutes another white crown sang feebly. A little farther &. another white crown feeding in grass. Gave sharp notes, warbled a bit. (Not sang). Another closely chirped several times. Just north &. of drive into Ath. Field, another pr. "Entrance to Men's Gym." Flock, mostly minature, feeding. Fulton st., E. of Allston Way, by ticket office Pair of White crowns feeding in grass. Not much nesting cover around. Between LSB and Calif. Hall. & White crown singing loudly in tree (group of trees S. side of area). Another (&) was present. Soon one chased the other into Thuja and shrubs around flagpole. Fled on ground near flagpole. & still singing in Thuja over an hour later.
