Berke 1957 Pipilo fuscus 2. 27 March 1957 U.C. Campus Berkeley Alameda, Cal. saw bird with a 6"+ twig crosswise in bill in horsechestnut outside MVZ. Sat for a few minute + dropped twig, fluffed feathers, sat then flew away. 8 April 1957 Steam E of Union, opp Fountain d Brown towhee nest. Found this nest the other day, recorded it tentatively as a Song Sparrow (See Melospiza melodia this locality, 5 April). Nest empty then. Now I am 3 ft. from nest. Bird is sitting on nest. The nest is in a brush thicket, mostly Rubus. It is close ground. Looks like large song sparrow rest. 10 April, 1957 Nest empty today - no eggs. Nest not disturbed otherwise. 22 April, 1957 Steam E of Mansfack Club. 6 May 1957 Corner Bancroft & Para, Berkeley. For second time saw a bird with 1 of the central rectrices (probably on right?) albis, ? May 1957 Several days after last obs., saw same bird. It also has several white flecks in its back. Saw it two days in a row at close range.
