21 Dec, 1957
2.8mi. WNW Richmond, 1275ft., Jefferson Co., Ohio.
shot 2 chichadees out of a flock that included
several more, plus tufted titmouse, Paris auicolar,
Sitta carolinensis. Also in area Dendroscopos
pusculus and Centurus carolinensis.
Shin # 259, Q ad. and 260, S, ad. (stalls 2 layers).
They were foraging in branches + trunks of
leafless hardwoods.
23 Dec. 1957
2.1mi. WNW Steubenville (Post Office) 1150ft., Jefferson Co., Ohio.
got 1 chichadee in the area over-looking "the Rocks",
near Parma's Run at the foot of our hollow. It
was alone but I had seen others, and titmouse,
neareby. It is # 263, ad. Q with slight fat.
Later examination of these chichadees showed
one from Richmond to be atricapillus, the
other two are carolinensis,
Also on 28 Dec., in the Richmond locality
and near Jefferson Lake, several
other two atricapillus were seen.
Shins 263 and 259 = P. carolinensis estinus
260 is apparently a P. atricapillus intergrade,
looks like practices, measures like P.Q. atricapillus.
