Tyrannus verticalis
19 Apr.
2 1/2 mi N. Patterson, Stanislaus Co., Calif.
lule extends farther posteriorly, and further laterally. It is rather rectangular shaped. It overlaps the left lobe and extends several mm. to left of center, below (w, posterior) to left liver lobe. When looking under the area of overlap, I find that the left lobe curls around to the right, well past mid-ventral.
Proventriculus: Esophagus narrows somewhat and continues as proventriculus. This continues on left side of [illegible] colon, tightly bound to rest of stomach on its (own) medial surface. The lower part of the esoph. is lined with some muscle, which extends and expands in the prov., where the muscle layer is nearly 2mm. thick. Farther, the prov. is thinner walled, at end of prov. Inner surface of prov. is folded, but esoph. is smooth to the constriction.
Gizzard: This surprises me by being so large, yet it is almost round, but bulges out ventrally. It was filled with parts of at least one probably 2, other caterpillar. The thickest part of the wall is the dorsal-posterior corner, which measured 4mm. Most of the rest of the wall is less than [illegible] thick. The pylorus is anterior and on the right, pretty far dorsal, near esophageal opening. Gizzard is lined with cornified material, coal convoluted, which extends into lower part of prov.
