Balds R.C. 14/5/6 Anna's Hummingbird. Calypte anna 10 Feb. N.W. corner Library Saw 2 hummers flying about top of pine tree, quite high. Could not get in good observing position. 13 Feb. S. side Durant Hall & sitting in top of small tree. Sat for several minutes, occasionally flying out and returning fly- catcher style. Black throat + chin, glenish back, 3". Song like Anna's Hummingbird heard several days ago. High, raspy squeak, considering size of bird. Flew about 50 feet away, returned very quickly and violently. Flew into shrubbery SW corner Wheeler Hall, for about 2 min., returned to perch. About 10 minutes later it flew to height of 50 +/- ft., zoomed down so fast I could not follow. It repeated this for a total of 4 times. Each time there was a loud sound as it reached the bottom of its fall (I guess). The last time it fed on red flowers of Cytisus japonica for about a minute, then disappeared at the W. end of Wheeler Hall. Shortly it reappeared in original perch, flew to line oak by steps to Durant Hall. Returned to original perch. 17 Feb. Hummer sitting in same perches before. Heard it chipping also at SW corner Wheeler Hall. 27 Feb. Hummer sitting same perches before. Flew off toward Power station 2 Mar. Hummer squealing at same perch. 4 Mar. Hummer same place. 1 Corner Barron Lane + Erbeman Rd. - Pair of hummers flew by squealing, from E. to W.
