Zonadma macrona
23 March 57,
2214 Vaste St, Berkeley Alameda Ca. Calif.
Here it gathered nesting material. Flying
back to the bird in the tree, it walked
along the branch, and across the back of
the bird seated there, actually walking on
the bird! Twice I saw it do this. It
evidently gave the material to the bird in
the tree, and this bird arranged it.
24 March
Saw one bird flying into the tree with a
twig about 8" long crosswise in its bill at
about 7:45 A.M. It landed in tree, stood on
the back of the bird sitting at the
fork, and gave the latter bird the stick.
Then moved to one side as the second bird
arranged the stick. The bird at the
nest is seated in a different position
today. The first bird stayed nearly
for a couple minutes, then flew to NE
corner of 1st & Vaste, presumably for
another twig.
25 March
Still building. Parts of the nest show
sticking out over limb. 8:30 A.M. One
bird sitting, other flew into tree.
19 April
From a few days after the last entry, I
have not seen any birds around this area.
As far as I can tell, the nest was never
used - perhaps was never completed.
