Zenaida macroura 2. 30 Apr. Between Cafeteria and Bee Art - Bird this morning is sitting on edge of nest. This may indicate that young have hatched. 1 May Nest dirty with droppings on edge Am positive from this that young have hatched. 15/6 May West Gatefield Nend - Saw 2 eggs on ground, looked like dove. One of them is fairly old and was picked clean by ants. Ants were just working on the other which was fresh but had 2 holes in it. Directly above, about 10 ft. high is a typical Morning Dove nest. 1957 13 Feb. Berkeley, Alameda Co., Calif. At 5 P.M. along Dana St. saw several Doves. For the most part they seemed to be in pairs, no singles or larger groups. Saw no courtship behavior but there seemed to be a definite togetherness. Doves have been calling around here in the mornings for several mornings. 23 March, 57. 2214 Haste St., Berkeley Calif. Alameda Co. At about 10 AM saw a pair of doves in and around the magnolia tree in the front of the house. They are building a nest in a fork of a heavy, nearly horizontal branch about 18 ft. up. One bird which I presume to be the f was sitting at the fork. The other bird would fly to the ground in the front yard next door, where there is no lawn but flowers etc.
