Zonaidura macrona
Mourning dove
3 Apr. 1956 Between Cafeteria + Res Art - Nest
in Cedrus tree. On horizontal branch
about 4 feet high. May not be
completed yet. One on ground with
something in mouth flew to nest, other
flew away. Just a very rough platform
of small twigs.
4 Apr. Fulton St. along ath. Field - See Journal
p.s. 20, 2Apr. 1956. Found 1 egg, 1 part of
egg under Cedrus tree. Whole egg had a
large hole near one end, small hole near
other end. Eggs are pure white, whole one
measures 27.0 x 20.3 mm.
18 Apr. Between Cafeteria + Res Art. - I have
pecked at this nest often in the past 2 weeks.
There has always been a bird sitting
on the nest. Construction of a
building near the area and all the noise
associated including putting posts near
and in edge of tree, has not made
them desert. I am confident they
were incubating on 6 April.
20 Apr. This nest is a mere platform of twigs,
appears about 4" in diameter. About 9 ft
up on a horizontal limb (diam. it is is about 4"
past a major fork), and nests on a large
and a small (1/2" diam) branch. Bird
incubating usually sits 8-11, only once seen
leaded N E-SW.
Wide Fac. Tennis Court - Bird with about 8"
twig in mouth walked to where live oak overhangs
fence of court. Returned w/o twig and sat there.
Could see no sign of nest.
