Elanus leucurus
2 mi SE San Jose, on Oct. 17, Santa Clara Co., Calif.
270ft. Saw two birds. They were perched
in walnut trees near a plum orchard. They
are very falcon shaped, long pointed wings
with black below on wings. The flight
pattern is very distinctive. When perched
they appear almost entirely white, with
a black line on head and some black on
wings. They often hover in one spot much
like a Falco Sparveriuss However, the very
whiteness will distinguish them.
