Journal 38. Dec. 28, 1957 Jefferson Lake area, Jefferson Co., Ohio Colaptes auratus, Thryothorus ludovicianus, Dendroica villosa, Sitta carolinensis, Contopus Carolinus, Regulus satrapa, Pama atricapillus, Sialia sialis, Bonasa umbellus, Buteo gambelii, and Megaceryle alcyon. A total of 26 species, 485 individual birds. Also seen in the count area by other groups: Accipiter cooperii, Buteo lagopus, Falco sparverius, Phasianus colchicus, Ortygopus pileatus, Asio otus, Otus asio, Melanops erythrocephalus, Sphyrapicus varius, Certhia familiaris, Troglodytes troglodytes, Sturnella magna, Agelaius phoeniceus, Spizella tristis, and Spizella pusilla. Total 41 species. Also in this area had found a dead coon Procyon lotor and 2 possums Didelphis. Got skull and baculum from coon, # 267, and one possum skull # 268. Dec. 30, 1957 2.1 mi. NW Stilesville (Post Office) N 50 ft., Jefferson Co., Ohio. Set traps in woods again, in apparently good places. Got one Peromyscus in same area as # 264. This one is # 269. Dec. 31, 1957. Picked up traps today. Had one Peromyscus, caught in a tree (hollow). # 270.
