957 Barker Journal. 34, See below. 11-12 Sept. Crocher Camp, mi N. Redmouth, ft. Plumas & Calif. Arrived here about noon Fri., and it shortly began to rain. Went deer hunting on Crocher Mtn. I got clean to the top, 7400+ ft., lots of deer sign. Ralph Pratt + Vic Larrin saw a doe fawn, I saw a doe + 2 fawns. Hunted till dark, got caught in rain. Hunted for owls in evening, nothing. Saw a poor-will. Sat. AM. it was almost clearing. Vic set gopher traps, Ralph & I hunted. Saw a doe. An awful lot of sign of deer everywhere here. About noon shot a White-headed Woodpecker, later a Stellar Jay. Ralph shot a Pinyon jay out of a flock of 25-30 that flew past camp. It began to rain again about 1PM. rained pretty hard till 2:36 (Present time of writing.) Earlier, I shot a Brown Cooper and 2 Mt. Bluebirds. See next page for list of birds. Saw a rabbit. Later it began to rain again, and rained pretty constantly all evening and all Sat. night. Sunday morning we broke camp and left about 9A.M. Drove back the Feather River valley, got home about 3:30 PM. Exact locality: Crocher Island Sta., 5 mi N 2½ mi W Redmouth, 5760+ ft, Plumas Co. Calif.
