Journal. 26 12 June Indian Spring N Side Mt Mac Rhuda, 7300 ft., Emardda Co., Nev. Spent the morning finishing up yesterdays specimens. I chased a Lazuli Bunting around the spring for nearly half an hour, couldn't get a shot. Shot a Green-Tailed Toucanet, Red-Eyed (=Spotted) Toucans also in area. Left here about 11:30 AM. Emi. S. Pigeon Spring, 6400 ft., Emardda Co., Nev. Hunted here for about 1 hour. I got two Tree-mice (Plain), 2 Brewer Sparrows, and a Black-Throated (Desert) Sparrow, Amphiliza lilacina . Nothing else new here. From here we moved on toward Cottonwood Basin in the White Mountains, at the top of Westguard Pass, we decided to go to Big Pine for gas. Returned and started in the road to the White Mt. Research Station. This is a very poor, in fact impossible road for a sedan. We got about 8 mi. in, past Reed Flat, and Ned's truck couldn't make the steep grade. Barked a bog ways, turned around and headed back to Big Pine, on the way to the Queen Mine. Went up Rt. 6 to just over the Nevada line. Found a deserted ranch. Ranchina Valley S of Mt. Montgomery, Minerala, Nev. a pretty little oasis too with several deserted buildings. This was our HQ for nearly a day. Water piped down from Queen Canyon runs a small stream past here, and 2 ponds are formed for cattle, which had the run
