1957 Journal 25. 11 June Indian Springs, inside Mt. Macleoda, Boot, Emerald Co., Made nest yesterday and today. Put my these 3 birds, and 1 from yesterday. Later in afternoon went across road & got an Ash-throated flycatcher with a [illegible] load. We had been hearing him since we arrived, off & on. Put 'em up, and shot a lizard, Sage-lizard? which I put in formalin. Later took notes of Brewer Sparrow nest, shot a House Finch near the spring. About 1745 a Morning Dove came near spring. Red is shining all afternoon. I'm sort of easing. Today is beautiful. The sun has shone bright all day, & is hot. I am in tee shirt now, contrasted to field jacket 24 hrs. ago. The late pm. sun on the White Mts., in the west looks funny - the snow on top looks all glistening, like it was half melted + refrozen. There is a breeze today, but light, not windy as before. Very nice day. The good weather has brought out the herps. Have seen a lot of lizards today but no snakes. About 1900 a Hairy Woodpecker near spring. About 2000, we left for owl hunting near Pigeon Springs. P.S. Pigeon Springs, Boot, Emerald Co., Var. Got here just before dusk, started calling for Barnest Owls. No luck. Poor willis here are more numerous than at Indian Springs. Also saw 1 or 2 bats. Good vision on all these slopes.
