10 June Indian Springs, N Slope Mt. MacMurdo, 7300ft. Esmealda v. about 1300. ate supper & wrote notes before our evening owl hunt. The area I worked today is a nice canyon opposite Indian Springs. Arnold road goes way up. The slopes + adjacent ridges, as are all that can be seen, are Pinon with some Juniper, pretty open but some big trees, and sage and other scrub beneath. The sun is now out for a while before setting, and the wind is dying down some. An Ash- throated Flycatcher is singing near-by. Went owl hunting at dusk, no luck. Heard Poor-will only 750ft & a nighthawk as we heard last night. 11 June Got late start today - up about 0630. Still earlier than yesterday. Need drove up the road and climbed Mt. MacMurdo, returned to camp about 1330. He found Crosshills, and Junipers. I stayed local - went up the canyon to the E where we were owl hunting, then back along west ridge S of the "cabin". Out about 3 hours, and didn't get close enough to get a shot at anything worthwhile. Shot a & Bl-th. Gray Warbler. On the morning hike saw Mt. Bluebird, House Finch, Blue- grey Gnatcatcher, Brewer Sparrow, Grey Flycatcher, Bewick Wren, Spotted Towhee, Bush-tit, Mt. Chickadee, Chipping Sparrow, heard Black Headed Grosbeak, possibly Green-tailed Towhee. Back in camp shot a Bush-tit & a Brewer sparrow I faked off.
