9 June
9 m. W Benton, Volpe Glass Mt, 8500+ft, Mono Co, Caly,
set out hunting. The weather is very poor.
It is cloudy & overcast, with the sun only
occasionally breaching through, and very
windy. A lousy day for collecting. In
over 2 hours I couldn't get close enough
to anything worth shooting. Saw the
following: Mt Chiricahoe, Oregon Junco,
Wright Flycatcher, Clark's Vireatcher, a
waxie and some unidentified things.
Shot at a Wright flycatcher, missed. That
was my only shot. While waiting for
Ned to return to camp, I found a Mt.
Chiricahoe nest. See sp. ant. During
the morning it was snowing on the
ridges around our camp - the White
Mts in the distance were apparently
getting quite a storm. Lousy weather,
during the morning Ned shot 3
Empidonax wrighti, About 1000 we
left this place, went to
Mount's Place, Mono Co. Caly.
Here we put up the birds we had. Ned
did his they flycatcher from yesterday,
and 2 Wright's. I did his owl & my Contspas.
Left Lee about 1330, headed East. At
this place where there is an old building,
we saw Empidonax trailii, Spizella
brenneri Thyonomes lenwichi:
From Lee proceeded to Benton, Bishop,
Across Westward Pass, through Deep
Spings Valley, to Oasis, and into New.
