Journal 20 8 June a dead end road. Returned + followed a road along the ridge which pointed toward Sawmill Meadows. This proved to be a dead also- it lead into an area very recently logged. Took a road to W of base, and ended up camping at this location: N. Slope Glass Mt. from U.Benton & Son Fte., Mono Co., Calif. This is an area of Jeffrey Pine, logged several years ago, Undergrowth is mostly low sage (Artemisia), scrub growth. Got here about 1800m., had shoot were ready to go to work by 1900. Went out hunting. Tried to call my Flammulated and/or Pygmy Owls, but had no luck- didn't get the least response. Much of the area is new growth, 15-20 ft., but there are a number of larger trees. As we left camp to hunt about 1900, I shot one of 2 Pygmy nuthatches (Sitta pygmaea) out of a Jeffrey Pine. Didn't do any shooting tonight, hope to in morning. Got back to camp about 2100, wrote notes around fire. About 2:45 , began to sprinkle some. Lasted only a few minutes long enough to scare us. Heard faintly a Poor-will. Pretty windy all evening, but wind died down about the time rain came. 9 June Sprinkled a few times during the night. Woke up once with hail. In the morning at 0530, I awoke to the song of a Mt. Chickadee. We were through breakfast by 0630, and
