a dead end road. Returned + followed a
road along the ridge which pointed toward
Sawmill Meadows. This proved to be a dead
also- it lead into an area very recently
logged. Took a road to W of base, and
ended up camping at this location:
N. Slope Glass Mt. from U.Benton & Son Fte., Mono Co., Calif.
This is an area of Jeffrey Pine, logged
several years ago, Undergrowth is mostly
low sage (Artemisia), scrub growth. Got
here about 1800m., had shoot were ready
to go to work by 1900. Went out hunting.
Tried to call my Flammulated and/or Pygmy
Owls, but had no luck- didn't get the
least response. Much of the area is
new growth, 15-20 ft., but there are a
number of larger trees. As we left
camp to hunt about 1900, I shot one of 2
Pygmy nuthatches (Sitta pygmaea) out of a
Jeffrey Pine. Didn't do any shooting tonight,
hope to in morning. Got back to camp
about 2100, wrote notes around fire.
About 2:45 , began to sprinkle some.
Lasted only a few minutes long enough to
scare us. Heard faintly a Poor-will.
Pretty windy all evening, but wind died
down about the time rain came.

Sprinkled a few times during the night.
Woke up once with hail.
In the morning at 0530, I awoke to the
song of a Mt. Chickadee. We were
through breakfast by 0630, and
