Journal 8 June. Left Berkeley 0700, Mileage 44045. Stopped for lunch about 1115, above 6000 ft., befoe Sonora. Our route so far has been 50 to Monterey, 120 to Yosemite Jet, 108 & hae + over Sonora Pass. We are eating under Incense Celer, White Fir, Sugar Pine & Jeffrey Pine. Willows in deep across road. Stanlaus Thrush belown us. Western Tanager + Wright Flycatcher around. Also 0. Juneo, Started again at 1145, Mileage 44224, At Falls Hot Springs, 7000+ saw Rock Wren of nesting material bound Brewer Sparrow, saw & heard Papito Green tailed Jaycee. Near Mono Lake, saw Black-billed Magpie. 9 Mi. E Jet. 395 + 120 Mono Waters, Mono Co, Calif. a dry area with a large open stand of Jeffrey Pine. Set off looking for Empidonax Shot a Contopus richardson out of a Jeffrey Pine Saw 2 chickadees. Saw & pair of Cloudy Buttercadas. Also saw a Pygmy Kestrel, and a Woodpercher, probably Hairy. Lives on S. side of 120, Red meat on north side. He shot an Empidonax gisenus and a Long-eared Owl. Also he saw Pinion Jay, Western Tanager Mt. Bluebird, Blue-Grey Gnatcatcher, Lewis Wolphn., Bush-tit, Rough-winged & Violet-green Swallows. Both saw Red-shafted Flicker. We were in this area about 1& hrs. Drove on E on Rt. 120, Went down road pointing toward Black [illegible] Canyon. It was
