Baba 1957 Journal 28 Jan, 1957 Tres Palmas, Vallecitos Valley 900' Ft. San Diego Co. Calif. Spent a couple hours here trying to shoot some birds we missed the other day. Charlie got a Verdin, I shot a Matacolla (P. caerulea) which I didn't put up, and an Oregon Jumper. Western Bluebirds and Phainopeplas still present in large numbers, seemingly more Bluebirds than before. Walt saw a Cinnamon Teal. We saw about 25 Canada Geese flying over, 4 separate and 21 in a V. Saw Mockingbird, Robin, and Sage Sparrow. Charlie shot and lost an Archulus warbler. In our traps had 1 Dipodomyys. This place is also called Mesquite Oasis. Vallecitos Valley, north of Canebrake Canyon, 900', San Diego Co. Calif. Got a total of 4 Thomson's out of this area today. Set all 32 traps around here. Eggars Canebrake Canyon, 1200 Ft. San Diego Co. Calif. When we got back about noon there was a Sulphurite in the cabin. John ruined the skin. Also a Sayornis saya flying around. 2 P.M. shot a Passerilla iliaca. Too bad too make a skin. Shot Corpodanus + Amphispiza 29 Jan, 1957 It snowed during the night, and 200 ft. above us the ground was white. It did not stick but snowed very hard for a while. Charlie + I checked on traplines - neither had anything. A bit of Junco Oregonus around - probably forced down from above by cold weather. Charlie + John cleaned up while Walt & I got traps from Tres Palmas and the desert floor. Our total take over night was 1 Perognathus, at Tres Palmas. Left at 2:30 AM.
