Slope Mt. Russel, 1550+ ft., Riverside Co., Calif. Back at camp at noon, Putup stated to rain some began to make skins in the car. After supper drove to San Jacinto, where we stopped at the Elms Motel + put up skins until midnight. Total skins for day: 21 mammals. 24 Jan 1957 Got up about 7AM. Charlie started on some left over skins; Walt, John & I checked and pulled all traps we had out. Got 4 Nestoma, 2 Peromyscus in the Badlands. In the line Charlie & I had set at Mt. Russel, we got 1 Dipodomys down low, 1 Perognathus and 2 Peromyscus on the higher, rocky slopes. Both these Peromyscus were the short tailed variety. Set 2 Perognathus, 1 Dipodomys, and several Peromyscus at the 1550+ elevation. Went back to the motel + put up skins. Left the motel about 4 PM, driving south to San Diego Co. It was raining all this time, but we ran into good weather shortly in San Diego Co. Slept around an airstrip near Agua Caliente. Charlie caught 1 chipizo in a shotline. 25 Jan 1957 Eggers, Cane Brake Canyon, 1200+ ft., San Diego Co., Calif. Left our temporary camp about 10AM. Drove into Cane Brake Canyon where we met Mr. Eggers who has a cabin. He does some collecting for San Diego Zoo + Museum of Man. His full address at his home in National City is: J.L.
