Banks 1957 Journal 21 Jan Barbaly, Alameda Co., Calif. Left Barkeley approx. 8:30 PM. from Kelt Muhlback's. Mileage 14550. Traveled to Walnut Creek + Rt. 50 to pick up Rt.99 South, Chowchilla, Madera Co., Calif. Mileage 14700 11:30 PM, Coffee break approx. 2 hours. Choke drove 22 Jan. Bakersfield, Kern Co., Calif. Mileage 14850 3:30 A.M. Coffee Break approx 1/4 hr. Kelt drove. Colton, San Bernardino Co., Calif Mileage 15027 Stopped for breakfast at 8:00, for about 1/2 hr. I drove from here to Perry area - We arrived in the area here about 9:00, drove around Labarier Mt. The area is pretty heavily cultivated, up to the bases of the hills. The hills are very rocky, covered with sage + scrub. There are very few small areas of flat a fairly flat land with either native grass or scrub. Found a plaque marking an Indian [illegible] Maze Rock. Now going north on Varian Rd, n of Rt. 54. Have seen Raven, Say Phoebe, Horned Lark, House Finch, Savannah Sparrow, Sparrow Hawk. On a little pond saw- Puckly Duck, Gnat, Pied Billed Grebe. Farther on saw a Marsh Hawk. On Bridge Rd at a very small puddle saw 4 [illegible] Green Winged Teal. Badlands, 1850 & ft., 1 mi. W of Jct. 60 +79, Quinicola Co. Calif. In this dead end canyon we found Calif. Dual Raven, Blue Grackle, Busk T.T, Brown [illegible] Tomber, and Top 4
