Banks 1956 Journal 43 Black Hills, 2,6mi N Orinda Village, 1020±ft, Contra Costa Co, Calif. 14 Oct. With Ned Johnson + Don Medina, collecting, I got 1 Junco, 1 Zonotrichia coronata, one Hylocicla guttata. Tracked late to Ned for Pipilo erythrophthalmus. They did better, got Chamea saltipons Aphelocoma, Calaptes, Vires huttoni, Lanius inornatus, Pipilo eryth. 19 birds all told. I saw a large owl, possibly Bubo virginianus, Saw one late I thought was rare bird but maybe not Bubo. No good look. Very pleasant morning. Large flock of finch in area. 20 Oct. Left Berkeley about 3:15 PM with Charlie Thaler. Went to Walnut Creek, Dublin, and to Coral Hollow. W Pleasanton on Rt 50- a small pond fee "Gor't Prop.-no Trap" large no. of birds. Probaly ducks about 275±, 75+ loot, 1 small shell (sp?), 50+ Killdeer, 30+ Mourner. (Bonaparte ?) 3 Pintail, 3 Scarp, Heard W. Meadowlark, Also 1 Pied Billed Grebe, maybe 1 other grebe. Coral Hollow, Alameda Co., Calif., 700±ft Saw several deer just before or just in hollow. Set traps about .3 miles inside Alameda Co. Each set about 40 traps. Elevation of traps from about 700 ft. to about 800 ft. Heard Great Horned Owl. Was dark just as me finished setting traps. The area was well grazed, very dry grass. On the steeper slopes were many rock outcroppings. There were scrubly
