1 Sept. Left Berkeley about 2:30 P.M. with
John + Betty Davis + Mrs. Ernd Austin. Drove
as far as Reno by about 8 P.M. Saw a
[illegible] Nightthanh just W. of Reno. (Washoe
Co., Nevada). To feed about 12.
2 Sept. Left Reno about 8. Drove to Salt Lake
City. Saw Swainson Hawk, Kestrel, mnt (?)
Pline, Crowet, some peeps, Canvasbacks in
Nevada. Vmt too hot - very pleasant driving.
3 Sept. Drove on to Steanbolt Springs, Colo.
Very pretty drive, but not much life.
4 Sept. Rocky Mt. National Park, Colo. - But
bee just before noon after a very
beautiful drive. A lot of birds toiling -
Swainson Hawk + Sparrow Hawk very
plentiful between Steanbolt Springs +
the Mts. Evidently migrating. Swanson
sitting on hay stacks, Sparrow Hawks
on pole stubies - about 1/2 half mile.
Saw one flock of Canvasbacks. In the
park saw Mt. Chichadee, Ruby
Crowned Knight just after me got in park,
Also Canada Jay. At the restaurant
at the summit saw pifts. John + I
walked up the tundra - wind was
very strong + wild. At a rock shale
beyond that (toward Estes Park) saw
Vibra - saw one, heard another. Very
cute. It was running around the rocks,
would sometimes sit on a rock in plain
view. Saw Pavers later at Rainbow
Point (Colone). had wonderful experience.
A marmot was being fed by a man,
some fed it to take pictures. Then
were several Chipmunks, and a young
