1956 Journal 5 June Salinas, Monterey Co., Calif. Left Salinas about 0730 mileage 1098 3. House Finch singing outside motel. N. of Hollister # 152 in cherry orchard, saw Yellow Billed Magpie cold California Woodpecker, Mourning Dove. This is Santa Clara Co. N. El Vado, Merced Co., Calif. Burrowing Owl sitting on fence post. Was gone when we turned around. Yosemite Valley Yosemite Park. Entered park via Arch Rocks entrance, drove up valley to Camp Curry. Beautiful falls and cliffs. Saw Violet Green Swallows and White Throated Swifts. Stella Jays and Brewer Blackbirds are very abundant. Also saw Robin, Gray Squirrel. While deer stuck head in window (almost) Drove around Park all afternoon evening. Saw Yosemite Falls, Bridveil Fall, Vernal Fall, Half Dome, El Capitan, other spots. 6 June 'Yosemite' In morning first drove to Glacier Point. Mileage at start of day 11203. Beautiful drive, took us 4 hrs. Because we stopped every chance. Saw California Warbler, Western Tanager, Steller Jay Olive Sided Flycatcher, had saw Mountain Chickadee. Also Western Wood Pewee, Robin, Audubon Warbler, White Throated Swift. Irwin's pictures of Stella Jay. Picked up dead Stella Jay at Glacier Point, 7214 ft. Packed up in evening, # 90.
