Banks 1956 Journal 28. 21 Apr. Big Basin State Park Santa Cruz Co. Califi. Left LSB and Berkeley about 0830. Stopped to see several stands of conifer forests. 260/25 C field trip. ( Dr. Ptelka, P. Anderson, J. Schnell, G. Robinson, D. Roberts, M. Marsh, F. Tume, J. Brooks, Canish, and RC Banks. In late afternoon, Brooks + I set 100 snap-traps + Marsh set some line traps in Redwood -D7 in- lithocarpus on E-SE facing slope, Dr. P. set 45+ in limus alternate, Floy S. set 45+ in another area. 22 Apr. Up at 0530, checked traps. Joe B. + I had 27 Peromyscus, none truei; some californicus. Dr. P. had 1, Jay had 5, Mark had 5, plus 1 dead Sorex (townbridge?) Made 2 stops on return trip, arrived Berkeley 1400+. 24 Apr. Berkeley - UC- Put up 3 Peromyscus californicus, 1 truei. All these dated on labels and in catalogue as of day of capture. Dr. Benson checked the traps mine for Dr. Ptelka, found in our lunch 13 truei, 14 californicus. Dr. Pitlhar and me 5 of each. 26 Apr. Put up 2 P. truei, 1 P. californicus from same area as 24 Apr. (Big Basin). 28 Apr. Red Stream N LSB, West Y, - Recorded young song sparrows for in nest from time from 0625-0655. Hopland Experimental Station Mendicino Co. Calif. - Ecology (200/25 C) Field trip. Left LSB 0715+. Went directly to Hopland Station. Met Plant Ecology class under Dr. Major from Paris.
