16 April Hastings Reservation, Monterey Co., Calif.
In the afternoon we had an opportunity
to talk with Dr. Thorpe, from England.
We discussed general things mainly but
compared his work to my problem and
he seemed interested. He was a fairly
easy man to talk to on such short
acquaintance.
We left the
reservation about 1500, arrived in
Berkeley about 1900 hrs. Birds added on
the way home were: Redwing, English
Sparrow, Coat Brener's Blackbird,
Western (Ahs.) Kingbird. (Lastnear Res.)
18 Apr. U.C. - Bancroft along ath. Field House Nest 13.
Puts equipment in wheelbarrow. Started
recorder running at 0622, stopped tape
at 0655. These young today are in their
5th day, counting the day they hatch as "one".
Traffic started to pick up about 0630, but still
not too heavy. While recording, a
Western Meadowlark flew across
stadium, landed in Thuja nearest.
English Sparrows also spent some time
on the wall above the nest.
21 Apr. Bear Men's Fac. Club Nest 2 - Set mike
mike about 8in. from nest. Turned on
recorder at 0703, stationed myself on
kitchen porch, & chipping until 0709.
Nothing until one brought food at 0716.
