Banks 1954 Journal 27. 16 April Hastings Reservation, Monterey Co., Calif. In the afternoon we had an opportunity to talk with Dr. Thorpe, from England. We discussed general things mainly but compared his work to my problem and he seemed interested. He was a fairly easy man to talk to on such short acquaintance. We left the reservation about 1500, arrived in Berkeley about 1900 hrs. Birds added on the way home were: Redwing, English Sparrow, Coat Brener's Blackbird, Western (Ahs.) Kingbird. (Lastnear Res.) 18 Apr. U.C. - Bancroft along ath. Field House Nest 13. Puts equipment in wheelbarrow. Started recorder running at 0622, stopped tape at 0655. These young today are in their 5th day, counting the day they hatch as "one". Traffic started to pick up about 0630, but still not too heavy. While recording, a Western Meadowlark flew across stadium, landed in Thuja nearest. English Sparrows also spent some time on the wall above the nest. 21 Apr. Bear Men's Fac. Club Nest 2 - Set mike mike about 8in. from nest. Turned on recorder at 0703, stationed myself on kitchen porch, & chipping until 0709. Nothing until one brought food at 0716.
