Apr. 12 Meth Church Parking Lot near campus - tried
to record young of nest D about 0745.
They wouldn't make a sound when I
held mike over them. Parent birds very
disturbed. Propped mike in bush near nest,
in hopes that parent birds would feed
and I would get that sound. A lot of
outside noise - traffic, radio, wind,
airplanes, etc Ran tape for about 40
minutes. Didn't get anything. Banded
young and removed an infertile egg.
13 Apr. E. side Trinity Church Parking Lot, Berkeley.
nest D - Recording from about 0645
to 0730. Using Museum truck,
microphone, Crescent 7 1/2 ips. recorder,
and Shure model 76B crystal
lapel mike. The mike is about
6-8 inches from the nest. I am
sitting in truck watching Sea
species account (Zonotrichia leucophrys)
This way I can watch controls and
not waste tape.
