25 Mar. Shuttled Sage Hen Creek, Nevada Co., Calif.
Partly shuttled them in P.M. without
meaning. Jay & I worked on blind & nest all
morning and until 3 P.M. Picked up traps,
had nothing more. Left camp about 6:00,
arrived at car about 7:45, got home at 1:15
A.M. on 26 Mar.
31 Mar. Henri S., Lodi, Orinda, Contra Costa Co., Calif.
Set 20ms. up, 5 rat traps in brush under
open live oak woods. Rained during night.
Had 2 Peromyscus maniculatus, 1 P. trans.
all &. Also had 2 Eratia escholtzi in one trap,
and 1 Passerella iliaca. On 30 Mar. found a
batch of feathers, neatly plucked, appeared to
belong from varied thrush or teal, a
few others under nest-like structure in
Madrone, but could find no pellets or
anything. Found a Zutums townesi
under a board. Specimens 67-73.
2 April Fulton St., NW corner Edwards Field
Found broken piece of egg shell and 1
egg with hole in it on ground under
Cactus tree. Could find no trace of a
destroyed nest or of a nest in the tree.
Several small birds had been making
aprons over a Calif. Jay when I arrived.
Eggs are pure white, 27.0 x 20.3 mm.
From comparison with the egg collection
at MVZ, I judge them to be Mourning Dove.
There is also resemblance to Flicker, but they
are not as pointed as Flicker eggs.
