Widena Canyon, Santa Rita Mtns., Pima-Santa Cruz
Cos., Arizona
Pima Co.
Left camp ~6:30Am to get in a 3rd group of
traps. Selected a site on a stream margin and
west facing hill slope just north of the (see map)
Williams household. Soil was sandy-silt w/
ever-present boulders. Leaf litter ~ 2cm thick
near stream margin. Hill side very rocky +
grass covered. Site ele. ~5,000 ft. near mouth
of Widena Canyon. Prious (?) larvae (~4cm.)
found while digging; 25cm down in hollowed out
root. Set 6 traps.
About 9:30Am left for Tucson + truck
repairs (burning oil like a fire!)
♂ Pyrroluxia (Pyrroluxia sinuata) flew
across road + into mesquite thicket ~7mi. NW
mouth of Widena Canyon.
Got oil, STP + did shopping in Tucson; left for
El Paso ~1:30PM.
