Oct. 13 Valencia Lagoon, Bird del Mar, Santa Ana Co., Calif.
Sunbelt stream cutting along its west side. Both Bonita
+ Upper road have many large puddles - some
5-10 yds wide or them. Still raining hard. Turned
boards + litter - lost my progress. 1 pm - ate
in cafe about 2 mi W of Valencia. Proprietor -
Boney Neal - said it had been raining steadily
since mid-day on Thursday Oct 10. The
ealier rainstorm did not reach here with force -
only scattered showers - "not enough to stop
out door construction work". After lunch we
drove to "Sulphur Beach" locality. No
standing water here at all. Roads very wet -
but it stopped raining at about 1:40 pm (PST)
worked willow area here. Quite wet - but
as at Valencia, dry under most logs + boards.
As we left this place - partly chased by
several unruly cows + 1 mostly looking Bull,
we found 1 Ambystoma tigrinum on the
road immediately adjacent to pond. Am. richieved
about 55 mm S.V. Killed last night - most likely.
Drove most of roads in this region, into Watson-
ville + back by way of Sunset Beach Park.
Hydra regilla seizing in ponds here. Lot of
water in ponds. Must bee checked for either or
both Ambystoma. Ponds between high bluff +
beach dunes - so salamanders may not use it.
Drove back to Valencia + went up to
