May 18 Valencia Fagoon, Rio del Mar, Santa Cruz Co., Calif.
Left Berkeley 1:30 P.M (P.D.T), arrived at
Rio del Mar 4 pm. Much to my dismay I found
several areas along Bonita Rd cleared &
marked off into lots. 1 area has a building
partly erected. One cleared area is [illegible]
adjacent to parking area & close to spot
where most of my animals were worked.
There are indications that more is yet to
come. These spots were not so only cleared
but some burned as well. Adios Valencia!!
Drove down to the La Selva Beach area
and found pond dried up, searched willows
& edge of pond - no salamanders. Rain
beginning to let up slightly. Ate supper
about 5:45. Returned to Valencia at 6:30.
Rain just a misty drizzle. Ground very
moist puddles everywhere. Dry under larger
boards & logs.
