Anderson 1956 Ambystoma m. croceum Sept 19 Valencia Lagoon, Rio del Mar, Santa Cruz C., Cal. Upon return from woods we turned next (8 left) out on Bonita Rd. 15 yards from jet a juv (♀) was found and soon 7 others found between jet and Joan Green residence. While marking & measuring there til + Dot found 14 more slightly west of Joan Green residence. We marked these at East end of Green house and picked up others as they crossed road in immediate vicinity. Total of 33 marked. 22 more seen but not marked. All but 2 of these 55 salamanders were moving from pond to oak woods, this fudging from their movement - Some were seen walking out of brush at edge of road & more across road towards woods. P, → O.W. Salamanders were still abundant → when we left the area at 1:50 → am. (POT). 12:30 AM (POT) temp. under 1/4" sand at roadside 14.2°C " 1" above road surface 13.3°C. Sept. 20. 2 A.M. croceum marked as they moved from pond toward woods. Ground much drier. Bright moon, sky clear. 9:45 temp at surface of sand at roadside 12°C " 1/4" under sand 14.2°C Air temp. 1" above sand. 11.8°C
