Ambystoma macrodactylum 80 Aug 7 Big Meadows, 6500 ft Colavere Co., Calif 5 were found under large log 6 ft long x 1 ft diam 3 of those were entwined Salamanders were clumped in case of 19 x 13, one atop of other & entwined many still have gills but color pattern is developing but not yet fully developed Pond was apparent 90 yds long x 45 yds wide at greatest extent. S bank lined w fir tree giving some shade to that side Few cotton fir on N side, there little shade All dried up since June Porter snake seen this time, 4 collected lost limbs Many transform ing in Hyla regilla seen. 1 Thamnophis collected had 1 Hyla regilla in stomach. Temp under big log where 5 were collected 19.5 C Ground temp (fully shaded) across side log 22.4°C.
