Amphistoma m. croceum Dec. 8 1/2 mi. NW. Ellicott Rd Sta, 4 mi. W. Watsonville, Santa Cruz Co. Calif 11 collected under R.R. ties + willow logs in willow thicket S of pond area. Despite long dry spell there is [illegible] a little water in the pond and soil is moist under larger, partly sunken logs. 2 FF had slightly swollen vent regions + elongated tails - not prime breeding condition however. D. Temps of 12.2 + 12.6°C recorded. Soil temp 12.6 in both instances. One badly damaged animal collected. Had all but 1/2" of tail missing & left side near hind leg torn open with mildest torn & protruding. Damage had taken place several hours earlier. Animal alive but barely able to move. No indication of cause. Isopods, crickets + slugs abundant under logs. Frogs, as usual, most abundant animal. Collected between 1:30 and 2:45 pm. 1 sub. adult Anaxida lugubris taken also. Two Hyla regilla seen, both juveniles.
