J.D. Anderson 1859 6 Ambystoma m. croceum Feb. 14 "2 mi. W Ellc[ott] Rd Sta, near W Watsonville Santa Cruz Co. Calif. 6 tad collected under willow logs in willow grove at edge of "Ellcott Pond", Cl. temps as follows: 9.6, 12.0, 10.8, 10.8, 10.2, 12.5. Temps under logs . 11.0, 11.0, 10.8, 10.8, 10.2, 12.5. On the 16th the soil temp "14" deep registered 9.6°C same as cloacal temp. 1 adult was taken from 3" w/ a mole run way. The burrow opened under center of log for 8". Salamander was coiled on bottom of burrow when it was slightly widened - almost twice normal width of burrow. Exposed the salamander by turning top off the burrow. SS # 4 from burrow. March 1. Valencia Lagoon, Rio del Mar, Santa Cruz Co. Calif. a series of small larvae collected in shallow area at south- ward end of pond. Found very close to areas of egg deposition - among + between clumps of dead Eleocharis stalks where most of the eggs were found. Working with dip net the larvae were taken in groups - probably indicates that they remain close to hatching sites for awhile. Many still retained balancers.
