J.D. Anderson 1959 2 Ambystoma m. croceum Jan 10 1/2 mi. NW Elliott RR Sta., 4 mi. W Watsonville, Santa Cruz Co., Calif. 10 collected under logs & boards between 4 pm & 5:30 pm. Almost all look near last sprawling willow closest to the barn. Most appear to be ?♀ ground or slightly enlarged. A torrent of runoff water apparently rushed thru much of this willow grove during one of the last heavy rains. It cut channels, deposited silt & rolled many logs. Soil muddy in that area. No salamanders found there but only where logs were untouched by running water. cl. temps recorded on this cloudy but warm day: 15.8, 16.2, 15.8, 15.0, 15.0, 14.1, 14.6, 14.6, 15.8, 14.8 ; temps (in order) under cover 15.0, 15.8, 15.8, 15.0, 15.0, 14.4, 15.0, 14.6, 16.0, 15.6. Hydra regilla adult under most logs. No other salamanders. Jan 10 Valencia Sagoson, Rio del May, Santa Cruz Co., Calif. 1 ad ? (ground) taken from 5 gallon can sunk in ground in oak woods near edge of pond. Had checked can for 5 when it was empty. 3 choronal Eucratie + 2 millipede in can also. 1 ad ? taken at 6:35 pm crossing Bonita Rd in a fine mist-like rain. cl. temp 13.8, temp 1/4" above road 14.0°C. Forest pond from woods. 8:15 pm. 1♀ taken as it crossed Bonita Rd. cl. temp 13.0, 1/4" 13.0°C. Fromig Pond, from woods. 11pm - 1♀ oz above, cl. temp 13.0, 1/4" 13.0°C. No rain for ?♀ but everything appearing wet + sky cloudy, as between showers.
