Jan. 10 Valencia/Sagan, Rio del Mar vicinity, Santa Cruz Co. Calif.
very muddy. Set out 12 funnel traps in water at 4:15 pm. Used a grid, 4 lines of 3 traps.
Traps in a line 8-10 yds apart & the lines 5 yds apart.
First line 15yds from shore & in 4" of water. Just
line 35yds from shore in 8" of water. After setting
traps we worked the willow area turning logs. With
hose soared thru here in place cutting channels &
turning logs. Silt deposited on way. Found salamander
away from these places. Most were in the woodpile
under the large willow near the barn. Got 10 A.
m. croceum. Adult Hyla regilla everywhere under
boards & logs. Saw a glasswing pair under one log.
Saprob very abundant. Saw more crickets & Jerusalem
Crickets than on previous trips. Earthworms very
common. Ate supper in car & returned to Valencia
at dusk. Began walking Bonita Dr. at 6:30 pm.

showing dearly. 3 Hyla & 1 ♂ Ensatina on road.
