J.D. Anderson 1958 Journal Dec 13 Valencia Sagoro, Rio del Mar + Elicott, Santa Cruz Co., Calif. Left Calbay at 7:45 am. Drive via Bayshore Freeway, Scotia & Fox Motor to Santa Cruz. Arrived Rio del Mar about 10 am. Made a cursory check of willow area, everything is dust dry here after the prolonged dry autumn. Drive via San Andrea Rd to Sunset Beach State Park to check a pond there. Still water in this one - I suspect it gets water from an irrigation ditch or a hidden stream. No salamander or frogs. Next I drove to a pond site near Aromas (where many T. granulosa were collected in Fall of 1956). Pond is completely dry. The willow grove around there is suggestive of that at "Elicott" but [illegible] considerably more dense. Turned many logs, some had damp soil under, but found nothing - not even a Hygia. Drove back towards the "Elicott" study area. Stopped to get permission from Mr. Edwards (J.W. Edwards 1630 Breauma Vista) who is extremely cooperative and always on the lookout for "the gold rocket devil dog". Went to '1/2 mi NW Elicott RR Sta, 4 mi W Watsonville locality. The area is now drier than I have ever seen it. "Dust dry". Found 1 G.m. croceum under a partially buried board & 8 aggregated under a partially buried large willow log. All of the most productive spots are now much too dry for Ambystoma. Saw very few Hygia. All that more found were under logs with a
