Dec 13 Valencica Lagoon, Rio del Mar + Vicinity, Santa Cruz Co., Calif.
trace of moisture & all were aggregated. Isopods - though fairly abundant are all in the few remaining moist areas & aggregated in large masses. Saw a few camigns & Cordoid beetles but little else.
Caught a mole under a railroad tie - same place where one was taken earlier this year. On Amblystoma lines here but I didn't see it this time. Many Hydra under the tagy tree. Back to Valencica Lagoon at about 3 pm. Tore apart two Woodrat houses near the willow thicket but produced no Amphibio. Worked in the oak wood. Tore apart several large rotted logs. Found two Batrachoseps, 1 a ground &. No Amblystoma.
Went to Red Door Inn - local hangout. Bob Flowers, a denizen of the Red Door, and an Amblystoma scout found another pond with Amblystoma possibilities. "Go to center of Aptos & take the road with over head 'Keep Out' sign. Walk 5 mi. into hills. A good pond with willows in a small valley up there". Will check on the next trip.
