Oct. 11 ½ mi. N.W. Ellicott RR Sta., 4 mi. W. Watsonville, Santa Cruz Co.
willow log 8-6x long, 10" diametr. Buried 5-6" in sandy soil. Salamander headed directly for a small mammal burrow. Cl temp. 18.0°C, Temp under 18.2°C.
Omitted note: The stub tail recapture originally taken in a leaf covered depression under the (see 9 Oct Sept 13), was 5" from this depression. Ran directly to that depression & attempted to burrow thru the leaves & [illegible] cover.

1 juv., cl temp. 17.8, taken under old RR tie (same one mentioned in previous note). Temp under tree 17.40C. Circled EP#1 marked, RF1; LF1 and released in same spot.
Soil sample - δD H₂O = 15.07
1 σ? (ad-subad?), cl temp 18.2 taken under small willow log at edge of clearing, ½ way between large central willow & Eucalyptus tree. Temp under log 18.2°C. Log roots ½ in soil, ½ in moist grass. This individual has st. swollen vent area - may be a σ? or way up (seasonally) for breeding. Tot length 100 mm, SV 48., tail 43 mm. Marked (EP#2) RF1; LF-2 & released.
2 (σ + ?) tadpoles under manure (3" diam.) willow branch lying on ground in willow thicket. Canopy 90%. Many similar logs on ground. σ cl temp 17.0, temp under log 17.4°C. EP#3, RF1; LF3 - Tot lgth 98.5 SV 50.0, tail 44.5. EP#4 (σ), RF1; LF4. Tot length 109.5, SV 52.5, tail 53.0.
