J-D. Anderson 1958 Amblystoma m. croceum Aug 29 1/2 mi. N W. Ellicott RR Sta.; 4 mi. W. Watsonville; Santa Cruz Co.; Calif. of 4 of these: 17.2, 17.2, 17.2, 17.4; Temp under bark 17.0°C. Time 2 pm. Dm. Hyloambus bark also. Another frog taken under an old railroad tie at far eastern end of willow clump. Box tree shaded by 4 small willows - Canopy cover ca 85%. Cl. temp. 18.0, air temp under tie 18.2°C. No other animals, 1 frog taken under large, rotted willow log at same end of clump about 10 yds from last capture. Cl. temp 17.6, temp under 17.5°C. Canopy cover ca 65%. 3 frogs taken inside of this log - all close together in termite woodings. Termites in close association. 2 croceum in bodily contact. Cl. temps of 17.4, 17.4, 17.6°C. Temp in log 17.6°C. The six animals taken under bark - mounted before were all in contact. Time 2:25 pm. 1 large frog taken at night 8:30 pm as it crawled over surface of ground 8" from a fallen log. Cl. temp 15.6, A.T. 1/2" 15.6°C. 10 yds E of the Eucalyptus tree. Ground very dry. Sky clear, stars out, moon (full) just coming up over horizon. Canopy Cover ca 42%. Relative Humidity (Ship's Psychrometer) 94 %. Seems rather high but there were water droplets on grass & water in pond may add to humidity in this pocket. Fog not in yet but large bank of haze just off coast.
