Amblystoma macrodactylum croceum
June 28 ½ mi. NW [illegible] Sta. 4 mi. W. Watsonville, Santa Cruz Co., Calif.
under logs closer to water. Those juveniles must have
dispersed on a wet, foggy night!! Soil samples
were taken from under logs (for first 7 animals only). Taken
back, weighed & dried to determine % moisture in soil.

Time 3:30 - 4:30 pm. Sky clear, bright sun. Cloudy
varied from 5% - 30% but most open. Logs
varied from very small - 1ft long, 2" diameter to
9 ft long, 1 ft diameter. In all soil was sandy
loam, no vegetation, few roots. Caught 2
shrews under a log 5 ft from a log which
produced 2 young croceum. Shrews are S.
Most probably a predator. Mole workers
under some logs - another likely predator.
