J D Anderson 1958 Ambystoma m. croceum Feb. 16 Valencia Lagoon, Rio del Mar, Santa Cruz Co., Calif. Several eggs found in 5" of water at S end of lagoon. Much dead & living (shoots) of Eleocharis. Water temp - 17.2-17.6°C. Water very muddy - almost impossible to spot the eggs. Eggs in late macula. Time 11 pm am. Several more found in water 1-3" deep - 1 ft from S shore of lagoon. Same situation, Eleocharis shoots coming up thru dead stalks. Water temp of 23.24 23.0°C recorded at 3" (2 pm). This spot gets still sunlight until late afternoon. Feb. 16. Ele[scribble] 1/2 mi. NW Ellicott Pt Ste, Ymi: W Watsonville. Checked sites of egg deposition observed on Feb. 9. Found no eggs with Embryos but saw many jelly capsules which had recently hatched. Judging from lab experience these had hatched within 2 or 3 days. March 4. Valencia Lagoon, Rio del Mar, Santa Cruz Co., Calif. Checked egg sites of Feb. 16 along S edge of lagoon. Some in process of hatching. One hatched while being handled. Several eggs found in 4" of water 5 ft from edge amongst Eleocharis. Water Temp 12.0°C. - 11 am.
