Anderson 1956 journal Apr. 14 Valencia, Lagoon, Rio del Mar, Santa Cruz Co., Calif. Left Berkeley between 10:30 & 11 AM. Crossed Bay Bridge & drove S on 1/01 to Alemany Blvld. West of Alemany to Rt 5 (Skyline Blvd). S on Rt 5 to junction c-9 thence to Saratoga & Fox Auto. Took Rt 17 from Fox Auto to Santa Cruz then on US 1 to Rio del Mar. Spent afternoon mapping (partially) Bonita Drive & "Salamander" Rd. Later we climbed up the S facing slope opposite the collecting locality to photo- graph the pond area. Took many pictures but camera was acting up so none may come out. We then drove S behind the Oak Wood in in Rio del Mar proper. The entire back slope is a residential one providing little in way of cover for Ambystoma. The slope levels off more gradually than N side. This way to flat grassy area which are heavily gnarled. About 1-2 mile S is Monterey Bay. We next drove out San Andreas Rd which goes S from US 1 towards the Bay & in its general direction of Watsonville. A body batballed O R Ambystoma tigrinum was found Then drove on to Sunset Beach State Park which would be an excellent place to camp. Saw more Brush Rabbits than I've ever seen before. Returned to Santa Cruz for dinner. At 8:15 pm we began a road check along "Salamander" Rd. 8:30pm 10 feet in from "Salamander" Rd on driveway to cabin called Cloud 10 new found on request
