Jan 9. Valencia Jagon, Rio del Mar, Santa Cruz Co., Calif.
1 ad. ♀ collected under large piece of stone 20" x 20",
♀ gravid, cl. temp. under rock 6.8°C. ♀ was
lying in old mammal burrow + disappeared into
closed portion of it when disturbed. She was
next to wide portion (nest?) of burrow, which
was littered with cuttings of Eleocharis + other
marsh plants. Surface temp. outside rock
13.8°C. Sky partly cloudy. Time 11:45 am.
Jan 23 Valencia Jagon, Rio del Mar, Santa Cruz Co., Calif
3 ad.♀♀ marked & released on Bonita Rd. between
12 midnight & 1:15 am. 3 road checks were made in
heavy driving rainstorm. Not in succession - 12-12:30 &
12:50-1:20. All 3♀♀ gravid with eggs visible thru
abdomen and all facing pond area, coming from
woods. cl. temps 8.0, 8.6 & 8.0., Temps '¼" 8.6, 8.8 &
8.6.
Jan 24 4 ad. found in pit (described note of Jan. 9.), 9 am.
3♀♀ & 1♂. cl. temps - 6.8, 6.8, 7.0. Temp. under
small board where they were found 7.0°C. All in
prime breeding condition. Must have fallen in
pit since Jan. 9. 1♂ was recaptured animal
marked Sept. 19, 1957. All 4 released at junction
Bonita & Hill roads. Raining hard all night and
still raining.
Jan 24 1pm: N.W. Elliott Rd., Sta. Yuri W. Watsonville Santa Cruz Co.
11 traps set in this (Elliott) pond at 10:00 pm
last night. Checked at 10:00 am. All traps
