J.D. Anderson 1958 Journal Nov. 15 Valencia, Juzon, Rio del Mar "Ellicott", Santa Cruz Co., Calif. Checked next in oak woods, kinda's much more moister here - due to stone runoff probably. Found no salamanders except 1 Ensatina which had fallen into Can trap #1 & drowned. 1 Doray troubridgin same can - also drowned. After lunch I drove over to "Ellicott Pond" - [illegible]. NW Ellicott Rd Sta, 4 mi. W. Watsonville, Santa Cruz Co., Calif. worked here for quite a while. Pitched up 7 croceum - 2 possibly breeding adults. Took temp data & soil samples. Next worked an Ambystoma tigrinum locality between Ellicott & Valencia. Hoped that some jiv tigrinum might be out but drew a complete blank on that score. Ate quick supper & returned to Valencia at 5:30 pm - began food checks at 5:45 while sky was clear & clear. At 6:10 pm it began to rain lightly. Dried at 6:20 pm 1 jiv croceum was collected as it walked across road (headed due S by Compass) from pond towards woods. Air temp at 1/4" = 7.9°C. Daw I B. attenuates at 6:30pm. At 6'35 rain stopped. Made 5 more food checks but saw no more Ambystoma. Got 1 Aneides lugubris on the hill road, on the leaf covered road cut. Next checked Ellicott area with lantern - again no luck - sky clear - moon's stars out. No Hyla out - may be too cold for Anax.
