Took Rt 17 to Fox Gate, Rt 9 to Sunnyvale (then Saratoga) & got on Bayshore Freeway (I28 Bypass) thru at Sunnyvale. Then across Bridge to Berkeley. Home at 9:30 pm. This route seems by far most satisfactory. During rush hours it might be bad but otherwise there is a minimum of stopping & a maximum of freeway. I really take a little more than 2 hrs. While going on other side of bay averages an hour longer.
